- Il 33° Istanbul International Film Festival (IKSV) si è concluso e al termine Mariangiola Castrovilli si intrattiene con uno dei più noti critici cinematografici del mondo, Dan Fainaru di Screen International, che con la sua lunga esperienza sia giornalistica (tra l'altro per anni ha collaborato anche con Variety e Moving Pictures) che radio-televisiva e aver presieduto Critics' Juries e membro in quelle internazionali in tutti i principali festival del mondo (tra cui Cannes, Venezia, Berlino, Toronto, Karlovy Vary, Locarno, Salonicco, Pusan, Singapore, Londra, Istanbul, Chicago) come suo consueto si lascia andare in garbati ma incisivi commenti. THE 33rd ISTANBUL FILM FESTIVAL CONCLUDES

THE GOLDEN TULIPS AND FESTIVAL AWARDS PRESENTED

Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) with the support of Akbank for the 10th time, the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival's Awards were presented at the Awards Ceremony, held at Cemal Re?it Rey Concert Hall, on Saturday, 19 April.

The Awards Ceremony of the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival was presented by Tülin Özen and aired live on CNN Türk. Following the screening of the short festival clip, the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) presented a plaque to writer, critic, translator, historian Giovanni Scognamillo on the occasion of his 85th birthday and his contributions to film history. Presented on the initiatives of Turkish Film Critics' Association (S?YAD), the plaque was given to Scognamillo by Alin Ta?ç?yan, president of FIPRESCI and S?YAD.

Producer and MK2 founder Marin Karmitz was presented with the Cinema Honorary Award of the festival by Istanbul Film Festival Director Azize Tan at the ceremony.

International Golden Tulip Competition Awards

Jury of the Golden Tulip International Competition was presided over by director Asghar Farhadi, and composed of actress Defne Halman, director Philippe Le Guay, producer and director of the National Film & TV School Lynda Myles and scriptwriter R?zvan R?dulescu. 12 films competed for the Golden Tulip Award in the International Competition this year.

The Golden Tulip in memory of ?akir Eczac?ba?? in the International Competition of the Istanbul Film Festival is supported with a total monetary award of 25,000 €. 10,000 € of the award is presented to the director of the film which wins the Golden Tulip, 10,000 € is presented to the Turkish distributor of the film and 5,000 € is presented to the director of the film which won the Special Jury Prize.

The Golden Tulip in memory of ?akir Eczac?ba?? in the International Competition was given to Blind directed by Eskil Vogt. The award was announced by the President of the International Competition Jury Asghar Farhadi, and the Monetary award of the Eczac?ba?? Group was presented to the director by ?lkay Y?ld?r?m Akal?n, Eczac?ba?? Holding Corporate Communications and Sustainability Director.

Special Jury Prize in the Golden Tulip International Competition which was announced by R?zvan R?dulescu, was given to Papusza by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze.

National Golden Tulip Competition Awards

Jury of the Golden Tulip National Competition was presided over by director Dervi? Zaim, and composed of Karen Byot, ARTE France Acquisition Manager; writer Hakan Günday; Joanna Lapinska, artistic director of Wroclaw T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival; and actor Nadir Sar?bacak. This year, 10 films
–3 of which having their Turkey premieres and 4 world premieres at the festival–competed in the Golden Tulip National Competition.

The Golden Tulip Best Film Award was given to Ben O De?ilim / I Am Not Him directed by Tayfun Pirselimo?lu. The award was presented to Tayfun Pirselimo?lu by the President of the National Competition Jury Dervi? Zaim.

The Golden Tulip Best Director Award was given to Onur Ünlü for his film ?tiraz?m Var / Let's Sin. Dervi? Zaim presented the award to Onur Ünlü.

A monetary award of 150,000 TL will be presented to the producer of the Best Film. 50,000 TL will be awarded to the Best Director Award in the National Competition.

The Special Prize of the Jury was awarded to He Bû Tune Bû / Once Upon A Time by Kaz?m Öz. Also the producer of the film winning the Special Prize of the Jury in memory of Onat Kutlar, Kaz?m Öz was given a 60,000 TL monetary award by Anadolu Efes, theme sponsor of the "Turkish Cinema" section of the festival. The award was announced by National Competition Jury Member Nadir Sar?bacak. Öz was presented with the award by Emre Topsakalo?lu, Efes Consumer Engagement Group Manager.

The Best Actress Award was given to Vahide Perçin for her performance in Ayhan Han?m. Last year's Best Actor winner Ercan Kesal presented the award to the actress.

The Best Actor Award was given to Serkan Keskin for his performance in ?tiraz?m Var / Let's Sin. Serkan Keskin was presented the award by International Competition jury member Defne Halman.

A monetary award of 10,000 TL will be given to the winners of the Best Actress and Best Actor Awards.

The Best Screenplay Award was presented to Tayfun Pirselimo?lu for his screenplay for Ben O De?ilim / I Am Not Him. The award was presented by the National Competition jury member, writer Hakan Günday.

The Best Director of Photography Award was presented to Ahmet Sesigürgil for his work in Silsile / Consequences. The award was presented to the producer of the film Faruk Özerten by FACE Jury Member Özgür Mumcu.

The Best Music Award was given ex aequo to Ali Tekba?, Serhat Bostanc?, A. ?mran Erin for their work for Were Denge Min / Come To My Voice and Giorgos Komendakis for his work for Ben O De?ilim / I Am Not Him. The award was presented by musician Attila Özdemiro?lu, who received the Cinema Honorary Award of the Festival at the opening ceremony.

The Best Editing Award was presented to Reha Erdem for his work for ?ark? Söyleyen Kad?nlar / Singing Women. National Competition jury member and ARTE France Acquisition Manager Karen Byot presented the award to Claudine Avetyan, on behalf of Reha Erdem.

Seyfi Teoman Best Debut Film Prize

Seyfi Teoman Best Debut Film Prize, presented for the first time last year in memoriam of director and producer Seyfi Teoman, whom we lost at a young age, was also announced at the ceremony. Jury members for the award were director Jan Ole Gerster who was the participant of the festival last year with his film Oh Boy, actor Taner Birsel and director of the film Ço?unluk / Majority, Seren Yüce.

All debut films from Turkey in the Golden Tulip International and National Competitions, under the Out of Competition and New Turkish Cinema titles of the Turkish Cinema section of the festival, as well as the Human Rights in Cinema section were nominated to the award. The award-winner is presented with a monetary award of 30,000 TL through CMYLMZ Fikirsanat. Director Görkem ?arkan received the award for Nergis Han?m / Mrs. Nergis screened within the New Turkish Cinema section, announced by Jan Ole Gerster and presented by Can Y?lmaz.

Film Award of the Council of Europe (FACE)

The Human Rights in Cinema Jury of the competition was composed of director Atiq Rahimi, winner of last year's FACE Award; Leyla Kayac?k, Adviser to the Secretary General and the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe; writer-journalist Özgür Mumcu; and Roberto Olla, Executive Director of Eurimages.

The FACE Award Sculpture and a cash prize of 10,000 € presented by the Council of Europe and partly financed by Eurimages were given to L'Image manquante / The Missing Picture by Rithy Panh.

Special Mention in the Human Rights in Cinema Competition was presented to Trans X Istanbul by Maria Binder.

Jury President Atiq Rahimi announced the awards which were presented by Leyla Kayac?k, Adviser to the Secretary General and the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

FIPRESCI National and International Competition Prizes

The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) gave two awards in the Istanbul Film Festival this year. The FIPRESCI Prize in the International Competition was presented to 20,000 Days on Earth by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard and to He Bû Tune Bû / Once Upon A Time by Kaz?m Öz in the National Competition. Jury member Janet Bar?? announced the award-winning films.

The FIPRESCI Jury was presided over by Nando Salvá (Spain), and composed of Heike-Melba Fendel (Germany), Angelo Mitchievici (Romania), Olga Markova (Bulgaria), Janet Bar?? and Murat Emir Eren (Turkey).

Radikal Newspaper People's Choice Awards

People's Choice Awards sponsored by the Radikal Newspaper and determined by the votes of the festival audience were presented to International and National Competition films. Tom à la ferme / Tom at the Farm by Xavier Dolan in the International Competition and Were Denge Min / Come to My Voice by Hüseyin Karabey in the National Competition were given the People's Choice Awards. The awards were presented to the directors by Cem Erciyes, Radikal Newspaper Editor of Supplements.

Cineuropa.org Award

Film Critic Vladan Petkovic determined the film winning the Cineuropa.org Award at the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival. Cineuropa.org Award, which is given to a film that besides having indisputable artistic qualities also brings out the idea of dialogue and integration, was presented to Were denge min / Come to My Voice by Hüseyin Karabey screened in the National Competition section.

After the Awards Ceremony of the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival, the guests watched Blind by Eskil Vogt which was awarded the Golden Tulip in the International Competition.

Closing events of the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival continued with the get-together hosted by Anadolu Efes in Mart? ?stanbul Hotel with the participation of national and international guests of the festival, actors and directors of the films competing for the Golden Tulip as well as significant names of Turkish cinema.

The International Jury of the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival presided over by director Asghar Farhadi, and composed of actress Defne Halman, director Philippe Le Guay, producer and director of the National Film&TV School Lynda Myles and scriptwriter R?zvan R?dulescu decided to give:

• The Golden Tulip in memory of ?akir Eczac?ba?? to Blind directed by Eskil Vogt (Norway);

The Eczac?ba?? Group will distribute the total monetary award of 25,000 € as follows: the director of the film which wins the ?akir Eczac?ba?? Seyfi Teoman Best Debut Film Prize

The jury, composed of director Jan Ole Gerster, actor Taner Birsel and director Seren Yüce decided to give the Seyfi Teoman Best Debut Film Prize to:

• Nergis Han?m / Mrs. Nergis by Görkem ?arkan screened within the New Turkish Cinema section.

The winner of the prize will receive 30,000 TL through CMYLMZ Fikirsanat.

The Council of Europe Film Award, "FACE"

The FACE Award (Council of Europe Film Award) is presented to the director of a film that arises public awareness and interest in human rights issues. The award includes a sculpture in bronze and a cash prize of 10,000 Euros. It is awarded as part of the Human Rights in Cinema section of the festival. The Human Rights Jury of the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival composed of director Atiq Rahimi, winner of last year's FACE Award; Leyla Kayac?k, Adviser to the Secretary General and the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe; writer-journalist Özgür Mumcu; and Roberto Olla, Executive Director of Eurimages decided to give:

• the FACE Award to L'Image manquante / The Missing Picture by Rithy Panh (Cambodia-France) for "moving from the memories about his personal experience during the Khmer Rouge period, [conveying] a clear, original and innovative description of an inhuman period in Cambodian history. Remembering the past warns us about the danger of any kind of totalitarianism and despotic regime which inevitably leads to a tragedy for humanity;"

• the Special Mention to Trans X Istanbul by Maria Binder (Turkey-Germany) for "providing a passionate, personal and sincere look on the condition of transsexuals in our contemporary societies. Marginalisation, poverty which often leads to prostitution; this film is a plea to stop any form of discrimination and to raise awareness about this injustice."

International Federation Of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Prizes

The FIPRESCI Jury of the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival presided over by Nando Salvá (Spain), and composed of Heike-Melba Fendel (Germany), Angelo Mitchievici (Romania), Olga Markova (Bulgaria) and Janet Bar?? and Murat Emir Eren (Turkey) gave:

• the FIPRESCI Prize in the International Competition to 20,000 Days on Earth by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (United Kingdom) "For the way it expands the limits about the always tricky relationship between music and film; it is neither a fiction nor a documentary, but something in between. A new territory full of insight with regards to how an artist's mind and creativity works;"

• the FIPRESCI Prize in the National Competition, to He Bû Tune Bû / Once Upon A Time by Kaz?m Öz, "for its nuanced way of portraying a chain of exploitation and the economical, social and political aspects behind it; and for its compassionate look at all the people involved in that dramatic process."

People's Choice Awards

People's Choice Awards sponsored by the Radikal Newspaper and determined by the votes of the Festival audience, are given to:

• Tom à la ferme / Tom at the Farm by Xavier Dolan in the International Competition, and

• Were Denge Min / Come to My Voice by Hüseyin Karabey in the National Competition.

Cineuropa.org Award

The Cineuropa.org Award of the Istanbul Film Festival was determined by the jury, film critic Vladan Petkovic, who decided to give the award to Were denge min / Come to My Voice by Hüseyin Karabey in the National Competition section for "its exquisite composition of both the cinematic frame and narrative structure, lovable characters wonderfully played by non-professionals, dealing with serious social-political issues, powerfully promoting human values and strongly condemning inhumanity of the state system on a universal level."
